Er bestaan heel verschillende visies op het idee van een mogelijke Singularity. Voor sommigen brengt dit moment een bevrijding en een opwaardering van de mensheid naar een hogere staat van zijn. Voor anderen is het idee van de Singularity pure fictie, een onmogelijk idee dat helemaal door wensdromen gevoed wordt. Weer anderen zien in de Singularity en de tijd erna, het Post‐Singularity tijdperk, als een nachtmerriescenario dat we koste wat kost moeten voorkomen, maar waar we ons ook zeker op moeten voorbereiden.
We vragen de sprekers van het symposium zich voor te stellen wat voor kwesties er zullen spelen in een Post‐Singularity tijdperk. Onze sprekers zijn een mediacriticus, een robot ingenieur, een netwerkspecialist en een softwarekunstenaar die het thema vanuit verschillende gezichtspunten benaderen. Omdat het moment van de Singularity afhankelijk is van hoe deze überhaupt zou kunnen ontstaan, wordt dit in het gesprek meegenomen. Hierdoor zijn de presentaties en het panelgesprek op een speelse manier ook een reflectie op vraagstukken binnen de samenleving en de ontwikkeling van technologie van nu.

Many different views on the possibility of a Singularity exist. For some it will be a time of liberation and evolution of human beings to a higher state of being. For others the notion of the Singularity is pure fiction, an impossible idea that is entirely the product of wishful thinking. And there are those who see the Singularity, and the Post-Singularity era that follows it, as a nightmare scenario that we have to avoid at all costs.
We ask the speakers to reflect on what issues might be at play in a Post-Singularity era. The speakers are a media critic, a robot engineer, a network specialist and a software artist who approach the theme from different perspectives. Because the coming of the Singularity depends on how we would actually arrive at this pivotal moment, the development towards it will also be discussed. This will make the presentations and debate afterwards a playful reflection on issues within our contemporary society and the development of technology as well.
